Dad-Scaped Record · Father’s Day 2026

For Ray · Recorded by Kate (daughter) · June 2026

What is something your dad always did?

Backed into every parking space. Said it saved time later. It never did.

What is one ordinary detail you never want to forget?

How he hummed while he made breakfast. Off-key, always the same three songs.

What is a phrase, habit, object, or ritual that reminds you of him?

His green thermos. It came everywhere: fishing, the sidelines, the waiting room.

What did he teach you, whether he meant to or not?

That you can be furious with someone and still drive them to the airport at 5 a.m.

What do you wish more people understood about him?

He wasn’t quiet because he had nothing to say. He just thought most things didn’t need saying.

A dad in the kitchen early in the morning.
Saturday, before the house woke up.
A dad folding laundry at home.
Folding laundry through the whole fourth quarter.
A dad packing a bag in the kitchen.
Packing lunch before a double shift.

Most of it looked ordinary. That’s why we’re keeping it.

Certified as is.

This one is made up. Yours will be his.
