FAQ
A few common questions.
The archive.
What is the archive, really?
A growing record of ordinary dads. Each entry is built from member answers, photographs, and small details added over time. The archive is private by default; the member decides what becomes part of any public piece.
Do I have to be a member to submit a story?
No. Entries begin free. Founding members (the first 100 accepted entries) are permanently named in the archive and receive cards numbered 001–100 when shipping begins.
Who can see my entry?
By default, only Dad-Scaped editorial. Nothing moves forward into anything public — a film, a print piece, a sponsored story — without the member’s permission, in writing.
Can I delete my entry?
Yes. Email hello@buildsomething.co at any time. We’ll confirm and remove the entry from the archive.
What if I want to update or add to my entry later?
You’ll be invited back throughout the year — sometimes on a birthday, sometimes around a holiday, sometimes because a photograph turned up in a drawer. Members can add photographs, notes, and updates to a record at any time.
Membership.
Is membership free or paid?
Founding entries are free. Nothing is charged today. Standard membership begins at $8 a month when cards ship and the archive opens.
When do the cards actually ship?
At launch. Two cards per month — one to keep, one to give away. At month three, members receive a numbered black card, limited to 1,000 total. Founding members receive 001–100.
How is this different from Storyworth?
Storyworth makes a book. Dad-Scaped makes a record — and pays members when their record becomes a partnership. The economics invert: at Storyworth the family pays for the book; at Dad-Scaped the member is paid when their story is selected.
Partnerships.
What does it mean when a story “becomes a partnership”?
Occasionally a member’s story aligns with a brand that was already quietly present in it — a jacket, a thermos, a truck, a cooler. When that happens, the story can become the basis for a campaign developed by Dad-Scaped. The member is paid. Nothing moves forward without permission.
Are the brand examples on this site real partnerships?
Not yet. Every brand example currently shown is a concept demonstration of the format — the category is called Recognition Advertising. Real partnerships will be disclosed when announced.
Is my entry going to be turned into an ad without my consent?
No. Most entries stay private, in the archive, as they should. Only a small number of stories ever become partnerships. Each one requires the member’s written permission before anything moves forward.
The dad question.
What if I want to write about my dad, but he doesn’t want to participate?
You can write your own record about him. The flow is on the Tell Your Story page. The entry is yours; it doesn’t require his answers.
Can I send my dad the questions and have him answer them?
Yes. The Tell Your Story page has a path for that. You enter his name and email, and we send him a link to the record on your behalf. He answers when he’s ready.
What if my dad has passed away?
A record can be written about him by anyone who knew him. The archive exists for everything that happens before anyone realizes it matters — including the things only the people closest to him still remember.
